In the last month or so, quite a few things have made us angry - both as individuals and as a group.
Misrepresentation of feminism, anti-choicers, transphobia, bisexual-bashing, narrow-mindedness; just some of the things that have made us see red.
Now whilst angry is a good place to be, its also good to take it and do something with it. So we have decided to start a video project, which is not only our way of addressing the bullshit that has come into our lives, but is also a way of giving people a voice - because sometimes it can be scary to stand up to the people who have hurt you when you feel like you are the only one who feels that way.
SO WHAT IS THE VIDEO ABOUT???
The video will be a series of statements which start with the words "I'm a Brighton feminist and I believe......". We had a discussion at our last planning meeting and came up with a bunch of statements, so now we just need to video people saying them.
HOW CAN I GET INVOLVED?
You can get involved in several ways:
1) Come along to our meeting on 14th June 2012 @1900, which will be held at The George public house in Brighton and take part in our filming.
2) E-mail us if you can't make it along and let us know if you have a statement of your own or if you would like to use one of the ones we already came up with. Once agreed, film yourself making the statement and e-mail it over. We will do some technical jiggery pokery and add it in with the ones we already have.
If you want to be involved but can't make it to our meeting on 14th and filming isn't your thing, it's likely that we will have a second videoing session, so please do come back and check here later in the month.
I'M PART OF ANOTHER FEMINIST GROUP IN BRIGHTON. CAN I BE INVOLVED?
YES!! We have been trying to get in touch with you - tweet us, e-mail us, facebook us or call us!!
I DON'T LIVE IN BRIGHTON OR THE SURROUNDING AREA. CAN I STILL BE PART OF THE PROJECT?
This video project is a feminist statement from the people of Brighton, Hove and Lewes. However, it would be super cool if other groups made feminist video statements from their own city/town/village. It would be even cooler if groups sent us links so that we can post them here on our site!
